What is
Wichita Falls Area Crime Stoppers?
Wichita Falls Area Crime Stoppers is a nonprofit organization that partners the community, the media, and law enforcement in the fight against crime. Cash rewards up to $2,000 are offered to citizens who furnish information leading to the arrest of felony crime offenders or the capture of felony fugitives.
This program covers Wichita, Archer, Clay, and Young Counties.
How does it work?
When someone has information about a felony crime, they can contact us through a secure, confidential tip line at (940) 322-9888 or the online portal SUBMIT A TIP. Callers are given a secret tip code number. That tip number is used in subsequent conversations to identify the caller. Our team then passes this information to local law enforcement agencies, who use it to investigate and make arrests. If the tip leads to a felony arrest or the resolution of a case, the tipster is eligible to receive a cash reward. Callers may remain completely anonymous, without pressure to reveal their identity, and still collect their reward. When the tipster calls back, they will be given specific information about how to receive their reward in cash in complete anonymity. This process ensures that community members can assist in fighting crime without revealing their identity, making it easier for people to come forward with crucial information.
How are the rewards paid?
Prominent area citizens have volunteered their time and have formed a Board of Directors to oversee the Wichita Falls Area Crime Stoppers program. The Board of Directors approves the rewards to be paid, based on information presented by the Crime Stoppers Coordinator.
Once the board approves a reward and the caller has called back to check on the case, the Crime Stoppers Coordinator will give the caller instructions on how to claim the reward. The Crime Stoppers Coordinator will give the caller a special code and they will be directed to a local bank. The caller gives this code to a teller at the bank drive-through. The teller will verify the code information, and return an envelope with the caller’s cash reward money. The caller then drives off with no one knowing who he or she was.
How does the program get additional information?
Wichita Falls Area Crime Stoppers collaborates closely with local media to amplify our message and reach a broader audience. By partnering with our local radio and television stations, we ensure that information about our program and the need for tips reaches residents across Wichita, Clay, Archer, and Young counties. These media outlets play a crucial role in broadcasting crime alerts, wanted notices, and updates on ongoing cases, helping to generate community engagement and awareness. Through these strategic partnerships, we keep the public informed, encourage tip submissions, and enhance the overall effectiveness of our crime-fighting efforts.
Does it work?
